20. The Autopsy of Jane Doe (Wild Card #4)

It’s never a good sign when you find a dead woman in the dirt floor of a basement, but it’s an even worse sign when she turns out to be a vengeful witch, hell-bent on wreaking vengeance on you from beyond her undead grave! And there you were thinking it was just going to be another night cutting up bodies with your coroner dad, didn’t you? You weren’t counting on this week’s Rotten Horror Picture Show movie, The Autopsy of Jane Doe to come calling for you!

According to Wikipedia, The Autopsy of Jane Doe is a 2016 supernatural horror film directed by André Øvredal. It stars Emile Hirsch and Brian Cox as father-and-son coroners who experience supernatural phenomena while examining the body of an unidentified woman (played by Olwen Kelly). It is Øvredal’s first English-language film.

Join Clay, and Amanda as they get into the finer points of ntense, morgue-based hazing, sinus flies, extreme sub-dermal tattooing, shitty cats getting what they deserve, creepy songs, creepy corpses, creepy bells, creepy elevators, and the ever eternal questionable parenting!

Much like our very first Wild Card choice, Starry Eyes, The Autopsy of Jane Doe occupies a space in independent horror where it’s become sort of a modern-day cult classic. It’s slipped under the radar of the mainstream, but it always seems to come up as a recommendation when you ask someone in the know for a new horror movie to check out. Chock full of foreboding atmosphere, gooey gore, terrifying relationship issues, and a very evocative hook, The Autopsy of Jane Doe is a delightful creep-fest you won’t want to miss, perfect for the Halloween season. So pull up to your favorite funeral home, drain some blood, accidentally piss off a vengeful, 17th-century witch, and join us on the slab…if you DARE!
