This week on The BATTASS Podcast, we hit a few pretty sizeable milestones: the return of fan-favorite bat-family member Batgirl, as well ass the end of season three, and most notably the end of what is technically defined as Batman: The Animated Series! The show keeps going, but under a different title, and a different look, so don’t miss this episode for the final appearance of TAS Classic!
First up, in Batgirl Returns, after a brief dream sequence rogues’ gallery beat-down that ends with the suggestion of a rather questionable romantic infatuation with the caped crusader, Batgirl investigates the theft of a jade cat statue from Gotham State University. Unfortunately for her there’s someone else on the prowl for said statue, the ferocious feline Catwoman. Forming an uneasy alliance, the Bat and the Cat track down the missing statue, and manage to rescue it from the clutches of some scary mobsters, with an assist from the bird-brained boy wonder Robin. Oh, also, Batman is on vacation or something in Europe in this episode, which is why the kids are all left to their own devices.
Next up Sean and Clay take a look back at season three, as well as a look back at the entire series, as the conclusion of Batgirl returns marks the conclusion of Season 3, as well as the conclusion of what is traditionally known as Batman: The Animated Series. From here on out, in season 4, the names change and the designs change, but you’ll have to tune in to season 4’s coverage to find out how the episode quality fares!
Join Sean and Clay as they get into the finer points of returning heroes, inappropriate romantic pairings, the future of Batman, the state of the comic book industry, when critique turns into nit pick, and some general thoughts on where we are and where we’ve been. Grab your favorite homemade, bat-related costume, make an alliance with an enemy, and check this one out!
