Over 200 years ago Mary Shelley terrified the world with arguably the first science fiction story, the immortal novel Frankenstein: or, the Modern Prometheus. One Hundred and thirteen years later, James Whale brought the startling tale of the undead monster to life in arguably the most influential and iconic horror film of all time, 1931’s Frankenstein.
Produced by Universal Studios at the beginning of the golden age of cinematic horror, this classic horror film follows the obsessed scientist, doctor Henry Frankenstein as he attempts to create a life by assembling a creature by the body parts of the deceased. Aided by his assistant Fritz, Frankenstein succeeds in animating his monster, but, confused and traumatized, it escapes into the countryside and begins to wreak havoc. Frankenstein searches for the elusive being and ultimately must confront his tormented creation.
Join Clay and Amanda as they re-animate the monster once again, and dig deep into the subversiveness of cinematic grave robbing, the early days of film censorship, gay subtext, the horrors of the first world war, and the real horror of the episode: the fact that Amanda has never seen Rambo.
We think it will thrill you. It may shock you. It may even horrify you. So if any of you feel as though you would not like to subject your nerves to such a strain, well…we warned you!
