17. Halloween 2018 (#91)

40 years ago it was “the night HE came home!” Well now he’s back again, free from the shackles of mental institutions and 38 years of convoluted continuity, and The Shape is looking to pick up right where he left off – stabby stab stabbing the innocent residents of Haddonfield, Illinois. But unfortunately for him, there’s also three generations of Strode women to fight him this time, and they’re bringing a whole keg’s-worth of familial stress and personal trauma with them as fuel!

It’s been 40 years since Laurie Strode survived a vicious attack from crazed killer Michael Myers on Halloween night. Locked up in an institution, Myers manages to escape when his bus transfer goes horribly wrong. Laurie now faces a terrifying showdown when the masked madman returns to Haddonfield, Ill. — but this time, she’s ready for him. Laurie, her daughter, and her granddaughter must pull together to take down Michael, or else Michael will kill them all!

Join Clay and Amanda as they get into the finer points of excessive Lonnie references (but no actual Lonnie), literal headlamps, multi-generational ass-kicking, mannequin-based decorating, head stomping, teeth wrenching, phone pudding, jaw spiking, pumpkin carving, and everybody’s favorite, questionable parenting!

In the last 40 years or so, the Halloween franchise has been on quite a rollercoaster ride of sequels and remakes, each one trying to recapture the magic of the original, while also straying further and further from what made it special, ultimately resulting in a mixed-bag of convoluted continuity and questionable creative decisions that has never quite found its way. But what happens if you strip all that away and stick to the map written by John Carpenter himself? Well now you’ve got something interesting! So get your favorite carving implement out, put on your finest coveralls and join us for a trick or treat…if you DARE!
