This week on The Rotten Horror Picture Show Amand and Clay head back to high school for their next wild card pick. This time around we’re stopping by Jennifer’s Body, a modern cult classic that’s right in the middle of a modern renaissance and reappraisal after being pretty universally panned upon its original release. It features a great performance from the ever-overlooked Megan Fox, and is supported by a who’s who of character actors and then-upcoming stars! Can ten years and a fresh perspective bring this one back to life? Listen and find out!
When a demon takes possession of her, high-school hottie Jennifer (Megan Fox) turns a hungry eye on guys who never stood a chance with her before. While evil Jennifer satisfies her appetite for human flesh with the school’s male population, her nerdy friend, Needy (Amanda Seyfried), learns what’s happening and vows to put an end to the carnage.
Join Clay and Amanda as they summon the dark evil of high school library occult sections, magic books, 9/11 tribute shots, proto-Burt Mackland, pre-murder Tommy Tutone, and the ever-reliable questionable (or possibly nonexistent) parenting!
Cult classics are a funny thing. Some of the greatest genre movies of all time are cult classics – The Thing, Blade Runner – and they all have one thing in common: they bombed at the box office! Having a fan base that grows over time is the mark of a true cult classic, and it’s great to see Jennifer’s Body getting the second look it deserves. Much like Jennifer herself, it’s a lot more than it appears and is a good time that’ll make you jump and make you laugh.
So get your cutest outfit, summon the devil to bring fame and fortune to your crappy band, and chow down on some organ meat with us…if you DARE!
