What’s your favorite scary movie…AGAIN? This week on the Rotten Horror Picture Show, we head back to college, and back to the franchise that gave the horror genre a shot (stab?) in the arm in the 90’s, with 1997’s Scream 2! The whole team is back again for the follow up to the phenomenon, with a whole new set of horror film tropes and cliches to skewer!
Sydney (Neve Campbell) and tabloid reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) survived the events of the first “Scream,” but their nightmare isn’t over. When two college students are murdered at a sneak preview of “Stab,” a movie based on the events from the first film, it’s clear a copycat killer is on the loose. Sydney and Gail, as well as fellow survivors Deputy Dewey (David Arquette) and Randy (Jamie Kennedy) have to find out who is behind this new murder spree, before they all end up dead.
Join Clay and Amanda as they pull the mask off of Nick Cave’s “Red Right Hand” (as always!), meta conversations about meta conversations, Cotton Weary’s 1-900 number, scar tissue as body armor, the sharpest blade this side of Wolverine’s adamantium claws, and boy oh boy a heaping helping of questionable parenting!
If one big rule of horror movies is that your film is not truly successful until you get the sequel out as quickly as possible, then consider the Scream franchise a great success! Released a year after the first Scream, Scream two suffers a bit from sequelitis, and isn’t quite as focused as the original, but at the same time features some great scares and sequences that are truly a step up from the original.
So put on your “Father Death” costume, pledge to your favorite frat or sorority, and scream your lungs out with us…if you DARE!
