65. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (Wild Card)

Let’s Rock! This week on the Rotten Horror Picture Show we’re headed to a quaint town in the pacific northwest, a place where the birds sing a pretty song, and there’s always music in the air–everyone’s favorite picturesque town with a seamy underbelly–that’s right, we’re watching Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me!

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me is a 1992 psychological horror film directed by David Lynch and written by Lynch and Robert Engels. It serves as a prequel to the television series Twin Peaks (1990–1991), created by Mark Frost and Lynch, who were also executive producers. It revolves around investigating the murder of Teresa Banks (Pamela Gidley) and the last seven days in the life of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee), a popular high school student in the fictional Washington town of Twin Peaks. Unlike the series, which was an uncanny blend of detective fiction, horror, the supernatural, offbeat humor, and soap opera tropes the film has a much darker, less humorous tone..

Join Clay and Amanda as they open the case file on David Bowie provisioning his own wardrobe, A big cup of good morning America, the “Great Went,” Turkey Slander, the world’s most foreboding ceiling fan, mini David Lynch, gratuitous Jurgen Prochnow, and horrible, awful, terrible parenting!

The big screen follow-up to the smash hit TV show with the sputtering, underwhelming ending, Fire Walk With Me was not what fans of the show were expecting, or even wanted, however, ultimately it was probably what they needed. What David Lynch managed to do was take the television veneer away from a truly dark story, and present us with a harrowing tale of Laura Palmer’s final days. It’s weird, it’s scary, it’s emotionally devastating, and features a truly epic performance from star Sheryl Lee.
